"This is just plain fun. Making buildings that exist, just piling them on – stone and glass and concrete out of control. And the cranes mean that they will just continue on and on. Even the crazy cranes are part of the architecture – you’d think they’d all get in each other’s way." -- Robert Morris
"Classical architecture put together as a balancing act." -- Robert Morris
"Architectural History 101. Sort of an overview like what you get in history of architecture class. A compendium of styles and materials up to the 1950s." --Robert Morris
"This is an Olympic stadium in Japan which is pretty curvy – hardly a straight line. So I took it from there and did a riff on curves stemming from the curves in that structure." --Robert Morris
"I like cranes. They’re very interesting sets of straight lines … and staircases that go up many levels … and the geometry of aqueducts and old and new buildings – and putting all these disparate geometries and histories together." --Robert Morris{/blockquote]
"I started with 3 classical Roman columns of three different orders and thought I’d wing it from there. On top of these I put three historic Italian style buildings -- one is actually at Yale. They looked like little bird houses. Then I decided to put a bridge connecting them which would help to determine their scale. Then since I had the bridge I put cars on it, giving it a further sense of scale. Then I thought the bottom was a little empty so I put in a tsunami."
"The title says what I was thinking about – putting together things that have subtly different colors and textures – even though it’s all stone."
-- Robert Morris
"I took the tools of drafting which I use and made them into a little city."
